But it’s better if you’re both, blended, integrated and/or bi-racial. See, I was contacted by a young gal looking to interview people/families of Columbia. It’s easier if I let her use her words:
Let me explain a bit about our project. We are part of a consortium of schools looking at different groups of Americans emerging [...]

Cleanliness ain’t next to Godliness
I’m prone to an occasional rant at God. I get mighty ticked sometimes. And usually it’s about the physical nature of this world and how much friggin maintenance is required just to live!
My most recent rageful rant was regarding my vacuum cleaner. I have a high-end vacuum cleaner. So, high-end that it managed to survive [...]

Localized pain.
News of the WMATA Red Line metro crash yesterday made me stop. I was headed out from the j-o-b when I heard the first bit about the crash. I needed to talk with people. To sit in a neighborhood bar. To be in the company of people who were local and cared, people who knew [...]

Lettuce-Apple-Lemon
This lettuce-apple-lemon drink in my Vitamix was OK. Not ultra-fabulous. But OK. Ingredients:
1/2 head of lettuce
1 apple
1/2 lemon
olive oil
4 ice cubes
bit of allspice … not sure why I added that … other than a small intuitive nod
This drink was too thick. It’d have been better with 1/2 apple and more lettuce leaves to make it [...]

CA & Transparency
James Howard, a local blogger, geek, active citizen and candidate for the Columbia Council for Long Reach, writes of the Columbia Association’s challenges — and steps forward — with being transparent. If u b in hoco, and are curious, check it out. If u be in Columbia/Long Reach, James Howard, imo, is an excellent candidate [...]

Local recs: garden services, PT and acupuncture
I just had the loveliest of experiences today and want to recommend some local services.
First, may I recommend The Tree Doctor & Lawn Care for just about anything from gutter cleaning to designing and installing flower beds to tree removal. He and his crew were diligent, courteous and capable. Alex can be reached at [...]

Choose Insanity.
Choose Insanity in Howard County. Yes, this is the bumper sticker I just saw on a coworker’s desk. Charming. Photo submissions welcome. I work with the originator of the bumper stickers.
What else do we have?
Embrace Hostility.
Choose Senility.

My Twitter Mosaic
Twitter Mosaic caught my eye. ‘Tis a little app generating your twitter followers and/or twitter friends. Their biz is that you can have the generated image then printed on a T-shirt, canvas bag, coffee mug, etc. Interesting, I find this, in how it builds upon many already-structured elements to create something new. Not sure I’d [...]

March Blogtale Party – 3/6
I hope you’ll join my co-host, Wendy Scherer, and I for the March BlogTale party. The party will be at El Azteca in Clarksville. Wendy, if you don’t know her yet, blogs at Finding Blanche and tweets at @wendyscherer. Personally, I find her writing, life, perspective and tweets quite enjoyable to read.
As an added bonus, [...]

Present.ly: Not using it currently.
But I wish I was.
In the last couple of months, a company and service keeps popping up on my radar, and it keeps drawing my attention. It’s Present.ly, and currently — as I wrote in my headline — I’m not using it.
A friend sent me a video about social media last week. I just watched [...]

Adopt-A-Restaurant Program launched
I’m launching the first super-official Adopt-A-Restaurant Program in Howard County. Well, assuming I have such authority, that is. Did you know: Restaurant Week for Howard County starts Monday? I’m supporting this initiative in a community knowledge management sort of way. And I’d like about 10 minutes of your help, if you feel so inclined.
About three [...]

Money. Mouth. Connected.
Putting my money where my mouth is. I just created a public, online, free Google Map of hula hoop activities in the DC, MD & VA area. (Well, I don’t have any VA locations added yet, but I know there are VA hoopers and classes, and I plan to add them.) A few weeks back, [...]

Bitter, strong, intense — he’s my man
Yep. He’s my man. Dr. Schulze, that is. And the herbal tonics he makes and sells are outta this world: bitter, strong, intense … and, in my experience, effective.
Earlier this week, I started having the uh-oh symptons of a flu. I knew the flu was raging in Virginia, one of the heaviest hit states. And, [...]

6 months in
Not sure if I’ll make it another 6 months, but it’ll be sweet if I do. I’m talking about my j-o-b. I’ve had one now, a full-time one, for six months. Almost seven were I to get technical. This is big news for me as most of my adult life has been spent either as [...]

Orinoco Coffee House: Closed
Bummer. From someone I now call a friend — and someone whom I met because we were both frequenters of the place — I have learned that Orinoco Coffee House has closed their cafe. Bummer. Sad for me to learn this. Hope they’re still rockin’ their roasting facility, also in Columbia.
For those who follow [...]
