Cleanliness ain’t next to Godliness

I’m prone to an occasional rant at God. I get mighty ticked sometimes. And usually it’s about the physical nature of this world and how much friggin maintenance is required just to live!
My most recent rageful rant was regarding my vacuum cleaner. I have a high-end vacuum cleaner. So, high-end that it managed to survive [...]

Localized pain.

News of the WMATA Red Line metro crash yesterday made me stop. I was headed out from the j-o-b when I heard the first bit about the crash. I needed to talk with people. To sit in a neighborhood bar. To be in the company of people who were local and cared, people who knew [...]

Trenchant observations.

Trenchant observations … Smart and spry.
That’s how my blog and I were described in today’s Balt Sun article about Howard County bloggers. Smart and spry I understood. Trenchant, while it sounded good, I had to look up on m-w.com. So, first, if you’re here reading my blog because of the article, welcome. May I offer [...]

Lettuce-Apple-Lemon

This lettuce-apple-lemon drink in my Vitamix was OK. Not ultra-fabulous. But OK. Ingredients:

1/2 head of lettuce
1 apple
1/2 lemon
olive oil
4 ice cubes
bit of allspice … not sure why I added that … other than a small intuitive nod

This drink was too thick. It’d have been better with 1/2 apple and more lettuce leaves to make it [...]

Gov 2.0

Gov 2.0 Camp coming up. I’ll be there. Hot stuff in the ‘hood.

My Twitter Mosaic

Twitter Mosaic caught my eye. ‘Tis a little app generating your twitter followers and/or twitter friends. Their biz is that you can have the generated image then printed on a T-shirt, canvas bag, coffee mug, etc. Interesting, I find this, in how it builds upon many already-structured elements to create something new. Not sure I’d [...]

Present.ly: Not using it currently.

But I wish I was.
In the last couple of months, a company and service keeps popping up on my radar, and it keeps drawing my attention. It’s Present.ly, and currently — as I wrote in my headline — I’m not using it.
A friend sent me a video about social media last week. I just watched [...]

Adopt-A-Restaurant Program launched

I’m launching the first super-official Adopt-A-Restaurant Program in Howard County. Well, assuming I have such authority, that is. Did you know:  Restaurant Week for Howard County starts Monday? I’m supporting this initiative in a community knowledge management sort of way. And I’d like about 10 minutes of your help, if you feel so inclined.
About three [...]

Money. Mouth. Connected.

Putting my money where my mouth is. I just created a public, online, free Google Map of hula hoop activities in the DC, MD & VA area. (Well, I don’t have any VA locations added yet, but I know there are VA hoopers and classes, and I plan to add them.) A few weeks back, [...]

6 months in

Not sure if I’ll make it another 6 months, but it’ll be sweet if I do. I’m talking about my j-o-b. I’ve had one now, a full-time one, for six months. Almost seven were I to get technical. This is big news for me as most of my adult life has been spent either as [...]

Who wants to be a cohost?

I can’t offer you a million dollars, but I can offer you a zillion thanks. Each month, I like to co-host a party for the local bloggers in hoco. Here’s the li’l boilerplate text I wrote up to explain what I’m asking from someone who’d like to co-host one of our community parties.

Pick a place [...]

Google, puh-lease

Frig. How many people do you have on staff in your Google-plex? It was near 5,000 several years back. And yet, your Gmail calendar function is lame as all get-out. If you’re looking for some New Year’s goals for 2009, here are some *really basic* things I’d like in my online calendar function … just [...]

Brecken

This girl can hoop. She’s local to Baltimore and one of the most inspiring hoopers I’ve ever known.

My fellow hoco tweeps

Hoco Tweeps, consider, if you will, following @hocoblogs on Twitter. Not much activity there yet. Perhaps it’ll grow to include more parties/events and such. I’ll at least post the monthly hocoblogs BlogTale party info.
Thummit.com is pretty cool, too. Check it out. Hyper-local data sharing. Very Web 2.0-ish, to boot. More features coming.

Hula hoops for sale in Takoma Park

I found a place that sells hand-made, adult hula hoop locally. It’s fair Day’s Play on main street (Carroll Avenue) in Takoma Park. Call them at 301-270-7999. Email.

I knew it then …

… Oh, but that didn’t stop me. No, I was in consume mode. And so I consumed. Now, I get to be in return mode. But here’s the worst part, I knew the ending to this story before I even started.
See, I decided to go shopping a couple weeks back. I was excited about an [...]

Stiff.

“Stiff,” is what my friend said the other day.
See, I was at a 40th bday party for a friend whom I would have guessed to have been in her early 30s. I told her that typically over the years people have guessed my age as 5-7 years younger than I am, but in recent months, [...]

My town is dying

Well, that’s what I’m led to conclude, at least. See, I was just flipping through the local paper serving my li’l community of Columbia; the paper is called The Columbia Flier. On pp. 11-13, there is a piece about how local residents reacted to Obama’s bid to become president. Now, as one who thoroughly enjoys [...]

An open apology to boomers everywhere

Passed along to me, and now I’m passing it along to you. This is a brilliant, classic GenX piece for the times. Inspiring for a GenXer compelling for a Boomer; insightful to a Millennial.

An open apology to boomers everywhere
Your earnest, self-important prattle has gotten on Gen X nerves for decades. But now we finally [...]

Presidents and Crystal Balls

I was just reminded by a friend of a blog post I wrote back in early February. It’s here and it’s long. In it, I articulate who I thought would win the presidential election and why, based on when America’s Crisis Era and cultural shift would be experienced. And, yes, “Obama by a landslide” was [...]
